JONATHAN KATZ: Many of my clients live in other countries and other states. They were married here. Sometimes their spouse has left and they're still here so there's a difference in jurisdictions between a foreign country or a state other than New York.

The fact that you live in another country or another state isn't really going to affect what I'm doing on a local level. I know that it might give you some anxiety because you haven't met me in person. You can't ask your friends or your neighbors whether I'm a good, bad or indifferent lawyer. So our communication is going to be by email and phone.

There's a lot of reasons why your involvement in your own case is important, not the least of which is to make sure that it's progressing the way it should. One of the biggest complaints that people have with lawyers is really a lack of exchange of information. So it is my hope that you become very involved in your case on a weekly or monthly or regular basis so that you're strategizing with me and letting me know what's going on with you. I can let you know what's going on with your case on a regular basis so that there are really no periods of time when you're wondering what's going on.
