JONATHAN KATZ: Oftentimes what people are asking is whether they should proceed directly with filing a divorce or with a separation agreement. And usually the more businesslike approach is simply to try to resolve all of the issues in a separation agreement before a divorce action is filed.
My clients are high-powered executives, people who live in other countries and other states who are accustomed to a high level of service and here at my firm they will get that.
One of the things that I've learned over time is that many lawyers have a relatively superficial approach to cases. And if the case doesn't fit simply into a category that they're familiar with they can't deal with it. And I've learned over the years to really sit and think about people's individual cases and the subtleties and nuances so that you have a good result.
If you have a complicated case where there are a lot of assets or complicated issues regarding business valuations, pension valuations, licenses, that sort of thing, then you need a lawyer like me who can handle those things for you.
